King Edward’s Bath: one coeducational day school from Nursery to sixth form

King Edward’s Bath offers one coeducational path from Nursery to sixth form, but that does not make every transition automatic or every campus detail settled. A planned 2027 consolidation and different assessments by age deserve practical questions. Families should also test both the ordinary 4pm finish and the later activity-day journey.

The 2027 campus move needs one written answer

The campus project page and Junior admissions material say Pre-Prep will move from Weston Lane to North Road in September 2027. That would bring younger pupils onto the wider school site.

The Pre-Prep admissions page instead says January 2027, then says pupils remain at Weston Lane for the whole 2026–27 year. Ask the school to confirm in writing when your child would move.

September is the better-supported plan, not a guarantee. Ask which site your child would attend on their actual start date, what happens if building work slips and whether travel, wraparound or transition arrangements change.

Can your child sustain the activities they choose?

Senior pupils study 19 subjects in Years 7–8 and usually take nine or ten GCSE or IGCSE subjects. Sixth-form pupils often begin four A levels in Year 12 and continue three in Year 13, with optional EPQ and wider enrichment.

The January 2026 ISI inspection found all applicable standards met and identified values-led pupil development as a significant strength. Its next step was to monitor Senior co-curricular participation more carefully because some pupils did not take part consistently enough to gain the intended benefit.

A 4pm finish can become a 5.45pm family day

Junior and Senior teaching days run roughly 8.40am–4pm. Junior pupils can be supervised from 8am and cared for until 6pm. Senior activities usually finish by 5.30pm, with library supervision to 5.45pm.

The current Bath Spa shuttle leaves Manvers Street at 8.25am and school at 4.10pm. It costs £170 per term return or £85 one way. That return does not solve the journey after a 5.30pm activity.

Test both versions of the day.

Support can be personalised and still carry a fee

The Learning Support policy describes reasonable adjustments, pupil profiles and an assess-plan-do-review cycle. The latest inspection described SEND support as timely, personalised and inclusive.

The fee schedule lists individual support at £64.80 an hour.

Optional lunch makes comparisons easy to misread

The 2026–27 fee schedule includes VAT. Lunch is optional at £975 a year, so compare KES with another school either with lunch in both totals or out of both.

These are the published 2026–27 charges, not a 2027–28 quotation. Obtain the new schedule before accepting a place.

StageAnnual tuitionWith optional lunch
Reception–Year 2£14,994£15,969
Years 3–6£17,856£18,831
Years 7–11£22,590£23,565
Sixth form£22,968£23,943

Application is £120 and the £500 deposit is normally credited to the final account. It is generally forfeited if a child does not join unless the vacancy is filled. Missed pre-entry notice can also create a term-fee liability. Music, instrument hire, LAMDA, wraparound and individual support can add cost.

Bursaries only at Year 7 and Year 12

Means-tested bursaries are available only at Year 7 and Year 12. The school describes up to about 30 Year 7 awards, mainly 40–100%, and around five Year 12 awards up to 100%, all subject to individual assessment and annual review.

The Year 7 route has dates families can act on

The 2027 Senior page lists an open morning on 3 October, taster registration by 2 November, the taster on 7 November and Year 7 applications by 16 November 2026.

Interviews run from November into January. The Year 7–10 exam is 16 January 2027 and Year 7 acceptance is due 1 March. The page does not give the ordinary offer-notification date.

Assessment covers maths, English, verbal reasoning and an informal Senior interview. Older applicants also have a modern language interview. No school VR specimen was verified; commercial familiarisation is suggested, while English and maths follow National Curriculum work.
